This effort delivers powerful design flexibility, allowing customers to address per-unit-cost and time-to-market pressures with the widest range of options for proven, integrated communications solutions targeting the industrial, manufacturing, power systems and medical device markets. “From safety-certified to small, simple RTOS offerings, Green Hills delivers a wide range of royalty-free operating systems for Freescale’s families of industrial-class microprocessors and microcontrollers,” said Bruno Baylac, director marketing for Freescale’s global consumer and industrial business. “With this extended suite of protocols, customers are given extensive flexibility in their product designs by allowing the selection of the right protocols, RTOSes, microcontrollers and embedded processors that satisfy unique feature requirements, performance, safety certifications and price points.” This week, at the Freescale Technology Forum in Munich, Green Hills will be demonstrating how a central communications/gateway processor (the MPC8360) communicates with a master/slave CANopen combination of two independent ColdFire™ processors, providing a real-world demonstration of the INTEGRITY IEC 61508 SIL3 certified RTOS running on the Freescale PowerQUICC® processor-based Reference Design Kit (MPC8360E-RDK) in combination with INTEGRITY and µ-velOSity running on ColdFire devices executing the CANopen protocol stack.
