Announce Software Development Solution for Microchip’s New PIC32
MCU Family
Green Hills Tools for High-Performance 32-bit MCUs
SANTA
BARBARA, CA —November 5, 2007
Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in device software
optimization (DSO) and real-time operating
systems (RTOS), and Microchip Technology Inc. [NASDAQ: MCHP], a leading
provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced
that Green Hills Software’s software development product suite,
including the MULTI® integrated
development environment, Green
Hills compilers, and Green Hills Probe,
are now available for Microchip’s PIC32 family of microcontrollers
(MCUs). The PIC32, based on the MIPS® M4K™ core, is Microchip’s
first 32-bit MCU family.
“We welcome Green Hills Software into the Microchip development
tools program,” commented Patrick Johnson, director of Microchip’s
High-Performance Microcontroller Division. “Green Hills Software’s
embedded development solutions are recognized industry-wide as leading
edge, and its MULTI integrated development environment enables PIC32
MCU software developers to maximize performance while minimizing code
size, development and product unit costs.”
The Green Hills solution for Microchip’s
PIC32 family consists of the following components:
- MULTI integrated development environment – providing the most
comprehensive DSO tool set for embedded software developers
- Green Hills MIPS compilers – generating
the fastest and smallest code in the industry
- DoubleCheck™ integrated
static analysis tool – industry-leading accuracy and execution
speed for software defect detection and prevention
- Green Hills Probe – providing reliable and efficient debugging,
using the PIC32 EJTAG debug port
“While MIPS cores have been traditionally aimed at high-end processor
designs, Microchip has developed a MIPS-based microcontroller family
that brings high performance to embedded applications requiring minimum
footprint, power and cost,” commented David Kleidermacher, chief
technology officer, Green Hills Software. “We are pleased to provide
Green Hills Software compilers, performance analysis tools, and the complete
MULTI tool suite, which are all optimized for the PIC32 family to help
realize this vision of top-end performance efficiency.”
About Microchip’s PIC32 MCU Family
The PIC32 MCU family is an extension of Microchip’s portfolio
of nearly 500 MCUs and DSCs into 32 bits, with a compatible pin and peripheral
migration path from its 16-bit families. The PIC32 is a high-performance
32-bit microcontroller family, based on the M4K core from MIPS Technologies.
M4K is a state-of-the-art 32-bit, low-power, RISC processor core with
the enhanced MIPS32 Release 2 Instruction Set Architecture. In addition
to its high-performance CPU and low interrupt latency, the PIC32 family
supports the MIPS16e 16-bit instruction mode for compact code, high-performance
DMA, EJTAG debugging, flexible power-management modes and internal code
protection.
