VTG

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries utilize flammable electrolytes that pose a risk of fire and explosion, potentially catastrophic in the confined environment of a submarine. When the U.S. Navy wanted to extend the environments and missions that can safely use Li-ion batteries, they turned to VTG in Chantilly, VA. Seeking the safest possible operating system for their battery management system (BMS), VTG selected the INTEGRITY®-178 tuMP™ safety-critical RTOS which meets the highest level of design assurance (DAL A). VTG’s Critical BMS will be fielded on special operations submersibles that execute clandestine missions globally.
