The Altera Cyclone® V SoC and the Arria® V SoC integrate Altera's 28 nm FPGA fabric with a dual-core ARM Cortex™-A9 processor and peripherals, high-speed transceivers, variable-precision DSP blocks, hardened PCI Express® interfaces, and hardened memory controllers - all with full error correction code (ECC) support. The ARM Cortex™-A9 processor system and FPGA interconnect use high throughput datapaths, providing 125 Gbps peak bandwidth with integrated data coherency -performance that is not possible in two-chip solutions. The full-featured Green Hills INTEGRITY operating system, coupled with the dual-core Cortex-A9-based Altera SoC platform provides a powerful processing environment that supports both symmetric multiprocessing and asymmetric multiprocessing.
The SoC Embedded Design Suite (EDS) development environment provides the software or firmware developer the ability to see all of the registers of the ARM peripherals and also the FPGA-based SoftIP peripherals - bridging the gap between standard software development and FPGA-based SoftIP development.
