As the rollout of the Internet of Things gains momentum, hackers are increasingly targeting embedded devices. Director of Platform Solutions Joe Fabbre uses a recreation of the point-of-sale (PoS) system from a high-profile retail security breach to illustrate how embedded devices can be particularly vulnerable to attack. Once malware infected this device via its insecure operating system, hackers were able to steal credit card data temporarlly stored in RAM.
In a parallel system that deploys the proven separation kernel of the INTEGRITY RTOS, critical components are isolated and contained to keep them truly secure from attack—a technology strategy that can be applied to any security-critical IoT device.
